ARCTIC ORIGINS

At the heart of the Finnish Lake District lies a crystal clear lake:  Lake Lummenne.  Inspired by the purity of this lake and the vitality of Arctic Nature, we created in 1970 the skincare and cosmetics brand Lumene.

LUMENE HISTORY

1948: Noiro was established as a subsidiary of the Orion pharmaceutical plant

1970: Lumene skincare products and color cosmetics were launched in Finland.
The identifying colors of the Lumene brand, blue and silver, were chosen to emphasize the Finnish origin and Arctic nature. At the time, the choice of color was regarded as revolutionary for a cosmetics brand.

1971: The Cutrin brand was established.

1973: The Lumene brand became the market leader in Finland.

1974: The Lumene Green skincare range containing plant extracts and oils was launched.

1980s: The popular Lumene Green moisturizers were sold in all Nordic countries as well as Russia.

1990s: The bodycare range, Lumene Body Aktiva, was launched on the market.

New ingredients used in the products included birch extract, tea tree oil and seaweed extract.

2001: Lumene was the first cosmetics company in the world to start using handpicked, wild berries in its products.

2002: Lumene Vitamin+ Advanced C-Energy cream won an independent European anti-age cream test. Containing berry seed oil, the cream became a favorite throughout the world, especially in the United States.

2003: LUMENE Oy became an independent company. Funds administered by CapMan as well as Langholm Capital LLP became its principal owners.

2008: Farmos Oy was spun off from the company on 29 February 2008.

2011: Langholm Capital LLP became the main owner of LUMENE Oy with a 79% share in the end of 2011. Funds administered by CapMan also remained as owners with a 13% share. LUMENE Oy’s management ownership is 8 per cent in total.

2011: Ice-hockey player Mikko Koivu became the face of the new Lumene For Men range of products in August 2011.

Mikko Koivu, current ice hockey world champion and captain of the NHL team Minnesota Wild, signed a cooperation agreement in which Koivu would became the face of the new Lumene For Men range of products. As agreed with Mikko Koivu, his fee will be donated in full to charity for the benefit of children and young people.
