Cloudberry

Rubus chamaemorus

Age-defying cloudberry seed oil protects and strengthens the skin. Cloudberry is particularly beneficial to health due to its vitamin C content; cloudberries contain twice as much vitamin C as oranges. The detox properties of cloudberry nectar help to make the skin look brighter and more radiant.

Heather

Calluna vulgaris

Heather has proven its effectiveness in the prevention of the signs of skin ageing. According to studies*, heather slows down the functioning of elastase enzyme that reduces the elasticity of the skin. The flower extract of heather contains antioxidant flavonoids that protect against free radicals, as well as ursolic acid that prevents premature ageing of the skin. Heather flower stalks contain arbutin, which brightens the skin and helps to prevent changes in skin pigment.

Spring water

Aqua

Spring water soothes and strengthens the skin. The minerals contained in spring water, such as magnesium, sodium and potassium, help to treat and prevent various skin problems. Naturally filtered through the layers of the earth, mineral water is a 100% natural ingredient that cannot be synthetically manufactured.

Sea Buckthorn

Hippophaë rhamnoides

Sea buckthorn oil protects the skin against the harmful effects of free radicals. It stimulates dermal blood circulation and moisturizes and strengthens the skin. Containing plant steroids, antioxidants, fatty acids important to the skin's well-being, vitamins and A and E and carotenoids, sea buckthorn nectar helps to prevent oxidative damage to skin cells, lipids and DNA.

Lingonberry

Vaccinium vitis-idaea

Lingonberry is bursting with flavonoids, phenolic compounds and antioxidants that promote skin renewal. It contains arbutin that has a lightening effect on the skin. Vitamin C protects and brightens the skin.

Blueberry

Vaccinium myrtillus

Blueberry seed oil prevents premature ageing of the skin and protects it against stress factors. Blueberry is rich in antioxidants, vitamins A and E, and fatty acids important to the well-being of the skin. It moisturizes and promotes the elasticity of collagen fibers responsible for skin firmness. The flavonoids contained in blueberry promote the oxygen supply of cells.

Rose Hip

Rosa canina

Rosehip seed oil has a conditioning, hydrating and softening effect on the skin. It helps to maintain the moisture balance of the lips, making them feel soft and pleasant.

PROVEN EFFICIENCY

Studies have shown that natural plants contain considerably more nutrients and antioxidants than corresponding varieties that are cultivated or grown further south.

The efficiency of Lumene’s ingredients and products has been assured with independent studies. We use, e.g., in vitro and in vivo studies, as well as self-assessment consumer tests.

We research promising new raw materials and technologies in the field in close co-operation with universities and researchers throughout the world. While testing products and raw materials, we do not carry out animal testing nor order it through subcontracting.

The efficacy of Lumene products is based not only on pure, wild Arctic materials but also on the latest technological innovations in the field as well as our strong pharmaceutical heritage. Our overall aim is to use at least 80% natural ingredients in all Lumene skincare products. Our makeup products also offer natural alternatives by containing more than 80% natural ingredients.

We do not test on animals but use alternative methods to ensure the safety of our products.

The well being of the environment is extremely important to us since our product development is based on the use of sustainable ingredients from nature.

Taking the environment into consideration is one of the most important factors that guide our way of conducting business. We apply an environmental system complying with the ISO 14001 environmental standard. In conjunction with this, we apply specific annual targets that are supervised by Norske Veritas. We received our first quality certificate the ISO 9001 in 1996 and the ISO 14001 certificate in 1998.

LUMENE Oy is also committed to the International Responsible Care program coordinated in Finland by the Chemical Industry Federation. Key touch points of this program are accountability and product safety.

We work in close cooperation with the Finnish Allergy and Asthma Federation, mainly on product development. The packaging of Lumene products are developed in cooperation with the Allergy and Asthma Federation and are marked with the Allergy and Asthma Federation label. We also cooperate with a number of top level universities and institutions.

In partnership with the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation, we are hard at work with purifying small Arctic rivers and springs and preserving Arctic peat lands. We believe in sustainability, sustainable production and minimal waste. At the moment we concentrate especially on peat lands protection work.

The LUMENE WaterSmart programme

During the past few years, Lumene has reduced its use of water by more than 30 % with the help of LUMENE WaterSmart programme. In the forthcoming years, water use will be further reduced, under the principle of continuous improvement. Lumene cooperates for example with The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation (FANC) in protecting water-based environments.
